I have tried every suggested diagnostics test, cleaned the connectors, and ran command prompt to check for problems in my system. After much research and communication with other surface owners, this problem seems to be quite widespread after this recent update.

Try to disconnect the Type Cover and wipe the connectors using a clean, soft cloth. After doing that, reconnect it to the Surface. Do this 3 times and see if the Surface will recognize the Type Cover.
