Welding table top, material choice and thickness
WEB04-04-2014, 08:23 PM. The acorn is the only table that can be called perfect. My opinion about thick tables is the thicker the better, you cant pound on a thin table with a big hammer. When some one starts off welding, they only think of welding, but in reality, jobs come in requiring welding and mechanical skills.

WEBTweet. #3. 03-04-2010, 08:29 PM. Welding Galvanized steel is a Health Hazard. Welding creates Zinc Dust which is dangerous, at the very least you will get sick at the very worst symptomatic illness. If you must; be sure to wear a Respirator.

WEB02-12-2010, 05:08 PM. I wouldn't use it either. When I'm welding on my bare steel table, after a bit it gets so hot you can't or shouldn't touch it. Pulls heat away from the backside of a weld faster than steel. 2. Less chance to scratch stainless steel during fixturing and welding.

When welding rough stuff I place a sheet of ali diamond plate on top to prevent damaging the surface. I put 4" wheels on my 1/2" steel table that is 4 x 6 and can wheel it around the shop to my hearts content.
