Death Valley experienced its hottest summer on record in 2024, with an average temperature of 104.5 degrees, and two fatalities due to the extreme heat.

Not to be confused with the hottest temperature in park history. That record was set more than a century ago when Greenland Ranch (now Furnace Creek) recorded 134°F (57°C) on July 10, 1913.

Death Valley National Park is looking back on a hot summer. According to officials, the park experienced the hottest meteorological summer (June-August) on record, with an average 24-hour temperature of 104.

The record-breaking season also included the hottest single month in the history of Death Valley. Park officials say that in the month of July, the park experienced nine consecutive days of 125 degrees or higher, and only seven days in total where the temperature did not reach 120.
