Before the dairy bar's beginnings in ice cream, Sherman's was a dairy and milk delivery business dating to 1916. Port Sherman, the grandson of the original owner, began creating ice cream in the 1950s and the sweet frozen treat won out over the bottled milk business, becoming a South Haven staple for decades to come.

An iconic Michigan ice cream shop says it will end its six-decade run at the end of this summer. Sherman’s Dairy Bar in South Haven announced the news on Tuesday, saying that after 66 seasons, they’ve decided to call it quits.

Described as offering ‘the tastiest and most delicious’ desserts and cake ‘to die for’ the Birkenhead store has received rave Google reviews.
