Pasco County commissioners voted Tuesday to place new rules on proposed car washes, aimed at regulating the location and appearance of these facilities.

WESLEY CHAPEL — Future car washes may be an endangered species in Pasco County, if the County Commission proceeds with adopting new rules that could severely curtail the industry’s growth.

Pasco County commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to limit the construction of new car washes. For some time, county residents have complained there are too many car washes built too closely to each other.

Too much car washing and too much storage may not be a good thing for the township, according to one Boardman official. Oversaturation of self-storage sites and car washes can negatively affect the economy and suburban environment in Boardman,
