Left-hander Justin Steele has been placed on the 15-day injured list by the Chicago Cubs because of tendinitis in his pitching elbow, a day after he was scratched from a start against Pittsburgh.

The Cubs placed left-handed pitcher Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list today with left elbow tendonitis. Right-handed reliever Jack Neely has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs had Steele’s turn in the rotation skipped yesterday with his elbow issue,

Shota Imanaga threw seven no-hit innings against the Pirates as the Chicago Cubs completed the first no-hitter at Wrigley Field in more than a half-century.

Led by Shota Imanaga, Chicago Cubs tossed a combined no-hitter on Wednesday. In a 12-0 drubbing of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cubs used three total pitchers to blank the Pirates. This is the 18th no-hitter by the Cubs in franchise history. It's also the first no-hitter thrown by the Cubs at Wrigley since Milt Pappas in 1972.

Paul Skenes pitched five effective innings while struggling with his location, and the Pittsburgh Pirates handed the Chicago Cubs another tough loss with a 5-0 victory on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees returned right-hander Luis Gil from his rehabilitation assignment on Thursday and reinstated him from the 15-day injured list. Gil was placed on the IL on Aug. 21 due to a lower back strain.

The Yankees face a Chicago Cubs team clinging to their NL wild card hopes, and coming off a combined no-hitter against the Pirates.
