Most designers are lucky if they can show at New York Fashion Week once per season. But Commando makes it down the runway at multiple shows every time, in a range of styles and aesthetics. That’s because they’re the go-to undergarments for countless designers, not to mention their celebrity fans.

The early 2000s were on display in SoHo, where the band TV on the Radio performed in front of a revival of Max Fish, the Lower East Side dive bar, at an event thrown by Vans.

Students at the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences entered a contest called Cyclones Take New York. The design competition resulted in the top two winners taking their designs to New York Fashion Week.

Fashion week is, of course, all about the shows and presentations—a chance for designers to debut their creations and set trends for the months to come. But over the years, the days-long event has turned into a behemoth that extends far beyond the runway.
