Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration for busing migrants to other parts of the country. Minutes later, he bragged about doing the same thing.

In a sparsely attended Arizona stump speech for Donald Trump, Abbott rallied against Vice President Kamala Harris, who Republicans have dubbed the “border czar” in an attempt to associate her with an uptick in asylum-seekers.

A Texas newspaper accused Governor Greg Abbott and other Republican officials in the state of "hurting our democracy" by claiming that there is widespread election fraud among noncitizen voters.

Abbott touted it as part of his efforts to prevent voter fraud, an already illegal and exceedingly rare occurrence that Republicans have pounced on in their anti-immigration attacks.

Voters must check if they’re still registered or if they have been placed on a suspend list, which may result in “more barriers for their votes to count,” a Democratic state legislator said.

In a letter, they raised concerns that eligible voters could be getting wrongly identified as noncitizens or removed to close to Election Day.

Since the signing of Senate Bill 1 in 2021, Gov. Greg Abbott has removed over one million people from Texas’ voter rolls.

Federal and state law already required voter roll maintenance. Experts warn the governor’s framing of this routine process could be used to undermine trust in elections.
