India expelled six Canadian diplomats and recalled its high commissioner, rejecting Canada's allegations linking the envoy to a Sikh extremist's killing. This decision reflects a significant decline in bilateral relations amid accusations of political interference by the Canadian High Commission.

As the diplomatic tension between India and Canada has hit an all-time high, Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma has come under the spotlight. Verma has been named by Canada as a ‘person of interest’ in the investigation over the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India has withdrawn its High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and other 'targeted' officials from Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the actions of the Justin Trudeau's government are endangering the safety of the Indian High Commissioner and other officials.

The move came after Canada named India's High Commissioner and several other diplomats as "persons of interest" in the investigation into Nijjar’s killing.

Rejecting the allegations against Verma, MEA said Ambassador Verma is India’s senior-most serving diplomat with a distinguished career spanning 36 years.
