On Sunday night, the AMAs honored the awards ceremony's 50th anniversary by tributing icons from each beloved music genre who have been recognized at the AMAs, which first started in 1974

The American Music Awards 50th Anniversary special spotlighted talent that amplified pop culture movements of the last five decades. The program aired on Sunday (Oct. 6) with performances, interviews, archival footage, and a handful of special appearances.

The celebratory evening will include performances from Gladys Knight, Kane Brown, Mariah Carey, Green Day, Jennifer Hudson, Stray Kids, Brad Paisley, RAYE and more.

The evening will celebrate half a century of groundbreaking music, iconic moments, unforgettable performances and rich pop-culture history.

Jennifer Hudson will honor 22-time AMA winner Whitney Houston, one of the top AMA winners of all time, with a performance tribute; and country superstar and five-time AMA winner Kane Brown will celebrate the legacy of Country Music at the American Music Awards with a performance of classic and current hits.

Mariah Carey, Brad Paisley, Jennifer Lopez and more A-list musicians have been announced as performances and special guests that will appear at American Music Awards' 50th Anniversary Special. The anniversary special will feature performances to honor the history of American music and the AMAs.
