GM says it’s ready to start selling power adapters compatible with Tesla, more than a year after it announced plans to adopt the related charging standard.

GM EV owners can buy the adapters that will give them access to Tesla's Supercharger network across the nation. Ford still delayed.

The Detroit automaker said Wednesday that it is opening up access to more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers for its customers, with the use of a GM approved NACS DC adapter. Customers in the United States will be able to buy the adapter for $225 through GM vehicle brand mobile apps.

Previously, GM electric vehicles weren’t compatible with Tesla Superchargers, as they were outfitted with a different proprietary charging port. Those who own these EVs can purchase an adapter for $225 using your vehicle brand’s mobile app. The app can also help owners locate the closest Supercharger station.

If you drive an EV from Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac, you can now plug in at 17,800 fast chargers. But don't head to the station just yet—acquiring an adapter could take some time.
