To meet the rising demand during the festive season, Indian Railways will operate special trains for Durga Puja and Diwali across various routes, enhancing connectivity and easing crowding on regular services.

The Northeast Frontier Railway is set to operate two pairs of special trains, including a Puja special from Anand Vihar to Katihar, to accommodate increased passenger traffic during the festive season.

The Indian Railways is set to operate 6,556 special trains to facilitate smooth travel for passengers during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja from October 1 to November 30. According to the railway officials,

In the 2023-24 festive season, a total of 4,429 special trains were operated, but this number has been significantly expanded for this year to ensure smoother travel experiences

Notably, 83 per cent of these trains will serve passengers traveling to eastern states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam.
