Amul files complaint against X users for 'false news' that it supplied adulterated ghee to Tirupati temple

Amid ongoing controversy over the alleged use of animal fat in Prasadam given at the Tirupati temple, dairy giant Amul on Friday (20 September) clarified that it had never supplied ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).

A ghee supplier to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, AR Dairy Food Pvt Limited, is under investigation for allegedly adulterating the ghee used in Tirupati laddus with cheaper vegetable and animal fats.

These X users spread misinformation that ghee sold under the Amul brand was used to prepare laddus which is then used as 'prasad' (offering) at the temple in Tirupati, thereby damaging the reputation of the co-operative organisation,

Police on Saturday registered a case against seven users of social media platform 'X' for allegedly spreading misinformation that the "low quality" ghee used for making laddus at the Tirupati temple belonged to the 'Amul' brand,

AR Dairy, the Tamil Nadu-based company which supplied ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati temple, denied allegations of any animal fat being present.

Amul has denied supplying ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) following social media rumours. The company clarified that their ghee is made from high-quality milk in ISO-certified facilities.

In a statement, Amul addressed social media rumours that claimed the company had been providing ghee to the temple. “We wish to clarify that Amul has never supplied ghee to TTD,” the company said, further stating that their ghee is produced from high-quality milk in ISO-certified facilities.
